“ESA’s Where on Earth? Travel Quiz Challenge Takes Off at Schiphol Airport”
The collaboration between the European Space Agency (ESA) and Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands is creating quite a buzz among passengers. With digital screens displaying breathtaking satellite images of Earth, travellers are being challenged to guess the locations in a fun travel quiz called Where on Earth?
It’s not easy to pinpoint the exact places shown in the images, as the Copernicus Sentinel satellites have nearly the entire surface of the planet covered. However, passengers can easily check their answers by scanning the QR code on each digital poster with their smartphones, which takes them to the ESA website revealing the location and its backstory.
With hundreds of thousands of passengers passing through Schiphol Airport daily, this campaign provides a great opportunity to raise awareness about ESA and get people thinking about space and our home planet. The collaboration between ESA’s Branding and Partnerships Office and Earth Observation experts aims to engage busy travellers and provide some space-related fun while they wait for their flights.
The focus on Earth is particularly timely, as ESA has recently launched its EarthCARE satellite to study how clouds and aerosols impact Earth’s climate. ESA’s Director of Earth Observation Programmes, Simonetta Cheli, hopes that this campaign will encourage passengers to reflect on the beauty and fragility of our planet and inspire them to learn more about ESA’s role in understanding and addressing climate change.
The Where on Earth? travel quiz challenge is currently running at Schiphol Airport, so be sure to take the #ESAchallenge if you find yourself passing through. It’s a great way to test your knowledge, appreciate the stunning images of Earth from space, and learn more about our planet and ESA’s important work in Earth observation.
