Samsung unveils advancements in language processing for European languages

Enhancing European Language Support in Galaxy AI: Samsung Research Poland’s Key Role

Samsung has always been at the forefront of innovation, and their latest Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy S24 are no exception. These features, such as Chat Assist, Interpreter Mode, and Live Translate Call, rely heavily on natural language processing algorithms to function effectively. To ensure the best possible user experience, Samsung has been working closely with research teams in Europe to improve these algorithms.

One of the key players in this effort is Samsung R&D Institute Poland (SRPOL). This research institute has been instrumental in developing automatic speech recognition, neural machine translation, and text-to-speech models for over 30 languages. By collaborating with other Samsung Research teams across different time zones, SRPOL has been able to enhance language support for 10 European languages in Galaxy AI.

The team at SRPOL is not only passionate about their work but also highly skilled in annotation, data collection, and research. Their dedication and expertise have enabled them to navigate the subtle nuances and variations in each language, as well as tackle challenges like untranslatable phrases and fast-paced speech in languages like Spanish.

Adam Ros, Head of Artificial Intelligence at SRPOL, acknowledged the hurdles they face but emphasized the team’s commitment to overcoming them. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and the shared goal of reducing cultural and language barriers through Galaxy AI.

Kornel Jankowski, Head of Speech Decoding at SRPOL, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the team’s enjoyment of learning new languages and their ability to adapt to diverse linguistic challenges. The team’s universal, language-agnostic skills have positioned them as a valuable resource for supporting new languages in Galaxy AI.

As Samsung continues to expand the capabilities of Galaxy AI, we can expect to see support for more languages and features in the future. The collaborative efforts of teams like SRPOL will play a crucial role in realizing Samsung’s vision for a more connected and inclusive digital experience.

With ongoing advancements in natural language processing and AI technology, the possibilities for bridging language barriers and promoting cross-cultural communication are limitless. Samsung’s commitment to innovation and collaboration is paving the way for a more globally connected world through Galaxy AI.
