First America Processing Robotic Sorting Systems at End of Life in Recycling Facilities

Robotic sorting systems have become an essential tool in the e-scrap and ITAD industries, allowing facilities to efficiently categorize, sort, and disassemble electronic devices. However, what happens when these robotic systems reach the end of their lifecycle? Enter First America, a leading metals and electronics recycling firm, which has announced that it is now processing robotic equipment at its facilities.

With eight facilities spread across the United States, First America is equipped to handle the complex task of recycling robotic systems. The company offers a wide range of services, including data destruction, asset management, parts harvesting, shredding, refining, resource recovery, transportation, and resale. In addition to processing end-of-life robotic equipment, First America is also planning to install robotic sorting capabilities at its facilities later this year.

By using imaging technology and artificial intelligence, First America’s robotic systems will be able to scan, identify, and sort materials efficiently. This innovative approach will not only streamline the recycling process but also ensure that valuable materials are recovered and reused.

Processing robotic equipment presents unique challenges, especially when it comes to data security. Many robotic systems contain sensitive information or work in conjunction with other devices that store data. As a result, data destruction is a critical component of retiring these assets.

First America’s venture into processing robotic systems is part of a larger effort to stay ahead of the curve in the recycling industry. In addition to robotic equipment, the company has also begun recycling solar panels and electric vehicle batteries, two rapidly growing waste streams.

Company president Les Bury emphasized the importance of intelligent recycling practices, stating that the reuse and recycling of AI and robotics assets can help create a cleaner future. By investing in new processing capabilities and technologies, First America is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable recycling practices.

As the company continues to expand its operations, it is clear that First America is committed to driving innovation and sustainability in the recycling industry. With a dedicated focus on processing robotic equipment and other emerging waste streams, First America is setting the standard for responsible recycling practices.
