Transformative Potential of Generative AI Revealed in New Research by Elastic
The potential for generative AI (GenAI) to revolutionize businesses is becoming clearer, with new research from Elastic highlighting the widespread belief among UK IT decision makers that these technologies can bring about transformative change within their organizations. Despite challenges such as messy data estates, search difficulties, and concerns around security and regulation, there is a growing interest in increasing GenAI investments in the coming years.
The report, titled “The Elastic Generative AI Report: One Year On, Identifying the Impact and Challenges of Early Generative AI Implementation Worldwide,” revealed that 90% of IT decision makers anticipate growth in GenAI investments. The hope is that these technologies will enhance operational efficiency, productivity, decision-making speed, customer engagement, and security measures.
Matt Riley, GVP & General Manager of Search at Elastic, emphasized the disruptive potential of GenAI, noting that businesses quick to adopt these technologies will lead in building resilient businesses, speeding up innovation, and pioneering new customer experiences. Jason Bloomberg, Managing Director of analyst firm Intellyx, also highlighted the transformative potential of GenAI in addressing data management, security, and search challenges.
However, despite the enthusiasm for GenAI, there are concerns hindering implementation strategies. Security and privacy issues, regulation challenges, and skills gaps within organizations are slowing down adoption. Nonetheless, there is strong interest in how GenAI can transform IT security environments and threat landscapes, with respondents seeing the potential for improved threat detection and response automation.
The research, conducted in collaboration with Vanson Bourne, surveyed 300 IT decision makers and influencers from various sectors, including telecommunications, public service, retail, and financial services.
Overall, the findings from this research indicate a growing recognition of the transformative potential of generative AI in driving business innovation and efficiency. As organizations navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by these technologies, it will be crucial for them to prioritize security and skills development to maximize the benefits of GenAI in the years to come.
