Show Some Love Green House Opens, Transforming Former Solicitors’ Office into Artistic Community Hub
18 minutes ago, the Show Some Love Green House officially opened its doors in Belfast, transforming a former solicitors’ office into an artistic community hub with a simple message – show love. This new space, created by the not-for-profit organization Another World, aims to spark artistic collaboration in a safe environment.
The Green House is not just your average arts space – it also houses a dedicated fashion swap shop, reflecting the organization’s commitment to sustainability and community collaboration. The project, partially funded by the Belfast 2024 cultural program, is one of 17 initiatives supported by Belfast City Council with a total investment of nearly £100,000.
Founded in 2017 by Connor Kerr and Becky Bellamy, self-described queer activists, Another World Belfast CIC is on a mission to create practical projects that benefit both people and the planet. The duo has transformed the Green House into an affordable, artist-led space for sharing ideas and resources, particularly in the fields of textiles and sustainability.
“We are first and foremost a safe space and welcome people who are curious to connect and learn, exchange and create,” Connor explained. The founders are dedicated to building a diverse community that provides support for people experiencing hardship, while also promoting inclusivity and creativity.
With backgrounds in commercial and creative fields, Connor and Becky are well-equipped to lead this project forward. They envision the Green House as a space for everyone, where the public can participate in events, workshops, and creative activities. The initiative aims to demonstrate that Another World is possible, addressing inequality through community, creativity, and collaboration.
Although securing funding was a challenge, the founders are determined to sustain the project independently by 2025. Becky emphasized the importance of funding for operations and resources, not just project ideas. As they work towards self-sustainability, Another World is focused on creating lasting impact beyond financial support.
Supported by Belfast City Council and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Green House is a testament to the power of creativity and community engagement. Lord Mayor of Belfast Ryan Murphy praised the venue and its program, highlighting its alignment with the city’s goals of sustainability, revitalization, and inclusivity.
As the Green House opens its doors to the public, it invites everyone to show some love, connect, and create together. With a vision for a brighter future, Another World’s initiative is set to make a meaningful impact in Belfast’s artistic landscape.
