Megan’s Space Shortlisted for Charity of the Year at SCVO Awards
Celebrating Legacy: Megan’s Space Nominated for Charity of the Year
Megan’s Space has been making waves in the community since its inception in 2019, and now, it’s receiving well-deserved recognition. This impactful charity, founded in memory of Megan Copeland, a former St. Matthew’s Academy pupil, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Charity of the Year award in the £100k to £500k category at the SCVO Charity Awards Scotland. They will be competing alongside worthy contenders, Advocacy Western Isles and the Isle of Luing Community Trust. The winner will be announced on June 11 at an awards ceremony, hosted by the renowned broadcaster Sally Magnusson at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow.
Founded by parents Jenny and Rob Copeland following the tragic loss of their daughter, Megan, this charity embodies a vision of hope and healing. Megan, a cherished young woman from Irvine, captured the hearts of those around her with her vibrant personality and bright future. Megan’s unexpected choice to take her own life shifts the conversation to the importance of mental health and support, a cause that Megan’s Space passionately advocates.
Rob Copeland, the CEO of Megan’s Space, expressed his gratitude:
“We are absolutely honoured to have been shortlisted for Charity of the Year at the SCVO Charity Awards Scotland. This recognition reflects the hard work, compassion and commitment of everyone involved with the charity — our staff, volunteers, supporters, and wider community. Above all, it is a powerful testament to Megan’s legacy and the lasting impact her story continues to have on others.”
Since its establishment, Megan’s Space has achieved remarkable milestones. The charity has provided essential counseling services aimed at improving mental well-being, and it has been actively involved in the community by organizing events and establishing a presence in local schools. Notably, they opened their own premises in Irvine’s Ballot Road last July, further solidifying their commitment to the community.
The SCVO Scottish Charity Awards serve as an annual celebration of the best in Scotland’s voluntary sector, recognizing individuals and organizations that make a significant impact in their communities. This year’s shortlist boasts 35 finalists, showcasing the diverse tapestry of charities and voluntary groups making a difference across the nation.
Anna Fowlie, chief executive of SCVO, highlighted the importance of these organizations, stating:
“Across Scotland and beyond, voluntary organisations are making an extraordinary difference, and the breadth and depth of their impact never fail to inspire. Our 2026 finalists epitomise this. Our voluntary sector is truly essential to Scottish society – we see the positive impact organizations and individuals make in communities across the country every single day.”
Megan’s Space stands as a beacon of hope and resilience in the face of tragedy. As June approaches, anticipation grows not only for the awards but for the continued impact this charity will have in promoting mental well-being and honoring Megan’s legacy.
Best of luck to Megan’s Space and all the finalists. Your vital work inspires us all!
