Atos Assists European Space Agency in Choosing Twelve Service Providers via Open Competition for Advanced Applications and Services on the DestinE Platform

Atos International Press Release: Supporting the European Space Agency in Advancing the DestinE Ecosystem

Empowering a Sustainable Future Through Innovative Applications and Services

Paris, France – April 16, 2026 – Atos, a global leader in AI-powered digital transformation, has been entrusted by the European Space Agency (ESA) to launch an Open Competition to enhance the DestinE ecosystem. This initiative aims to create a highly accurate digital twin of Earth, assisting policymakers and researchers in understanding natural phenomena to foster sustainability.

Revolutionizing Earth Observation: Atos Partners with ESA for the DestinE Platform

Introduction

In a landmark collaboration, Atos, a global leader in AI-powered digital transformation, has taken a significant step towards enhancing our understanding of Earth’s processes. This partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA) aims to expand the DestinE platform, a groundbreaking initiative designed to create a highly accurate digital twin of our planet.

Understanding DestinE

The DestinE (Digital Twin of Earth) initiative is a flagship project led by the European Commission. In collaboration with ESA, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), DestinE focuses on simulating, monitoring, and comprehensively understanding both natural and human phenomena on Earth. This project is vitally important for informing decision-making processes geared towards a more sustainable future.

Expanding the Ecosystem

On April 16, 2026, Atos announced it has successfully executed an Open Competition to select twelve innovative service providers to implement Advanced Applications & Services (AAS) on the DestinE platform. Each service is equipped to tackle different challenges, providing invaluable insights for various sectors, from agriculture to urban planning.

Highlighted Services

  1. CALIFE (“Quality of Life”):

    • Developed by Murmuration, CALIFE translates satellite Earth Observation insights into accessible reports for citizens and local authorities. It offers:
      • Free services for municipalities
      • Premium quality-of-life reports for citizens
      • Custom projections for decision-makers
    • By enhancing awareness, it aids local policies aimed at fostering community resilience against climate change.
  2. HARVIC (Harvest Insights for Crops):

    • Developed by GeoVille, HARVIC provides insights into crop development in the potato industry, allowing stakeholders to:
      • Monitor crop health
      • Predict yield and quality
      • Identify risks early
    • This tool helps optimize resources and supports sustainable farming practices.
  3. Hi-Rest LST:

    • Offering precise thermal insights at a resolution of 30 meters, Hi-Rest LST employs advanced data fusion techniques. Key offerings include:
      • Detailed land surface temperature visualizations
      • Customizable areas of interest
      • Monitoring tools for user-triggered analysis
  4. COMEO (Compression Of Models & Earth Observations):

    • Developed by VisioTerra, COMEO streamlines data management through advanced compression algorithms. Users benefit from:
      • Significant size reduction of data
      • Tools for understanding the impacts of compression on quality
  5. Desert Locust Monitoring Service (DLMS):

    • Developed by Sistema, DLMS uses AI to identify breeding conditions for desert locusts and predicts swarm movements, playing a crucial role in agricultural protection.

Looking Ahead

This initiative is only the beginning. Atos aims to enable new waves of innovative services, such as:

  • CityNexus Pro: An advanced urban digital twin application assessing climate change impacts.
  • CONOPS: A predictive model for estimating disease risks based on mosquito populations.
  • AQWALYTICS: A scalable solution for monitoring water quality across Europe.

Commitment to Sustainable Solutions

Valérie Dehlinger, director of Aerospace and related sectors at Atos, stated, “We are pleased to support ESA’s work in advancing the DestinE ecosystem…”

Atos is committed to ensuring that the DestinE platform attracts diverse stakeholders, maximizing its impact on understanding and protecting our planet.

Conclusion

As Atos collaborates with the ESA through the innovative DestinE platform, we are witnessing a pivotal moment in Earth observation. This partnership not only amplifies our ability to monitor environmental changes but also significantly contributes to informed decision-making, enabling sustainable choices for future generations.
