Are you passionate about space and eager to build a long-term career in the European space sector? If you have two to three years of professional experience and a Master’s degree, the European Space Agency (ESA) is excited to announce a unique opportunity through its Junior Professional Programme (JPP). This initiative is your gateway to contributing to cutting-edge space missions in an international and dynamic environment.

What is the Junior Professional Programme?

The Junior Professional Programme (JPP) is designed as a structured career-entry path for early-career professionals aspiring to work at ESA. Unlike traditional internships or fellowships, this four-year contract equips participants with in-depth experience and the chance to become integral members of the ESA team.

Participants will engage in real ESA projects while rotating across various departments and collaborating with external partners in the space sector. With dedicated mentoring and professional training, you’ll accelerate your career growth and skill development.

Apply Today!

Why Choose the JPP?

Long-Term Career Prospects

The JPP is strategically designed as a stepping stone to a permanent position at ESA. With guidance and support from ESA’s experts, you will enhance your knowledge and skills, contributing to the agency’s overarching mission.

Hands-On Experience with Cutting-Edge Space Projects

As a JPP participant, you’ll work on ambitious projects in areas like Earth observation, planetary exploration, satellite development, and space safety. Your efforts will directly contribute to ESA’s technological advancements and missions.

Rotations Across ESA and Beyond

The JPP includes a rotation scheme, allowing you to gain a broad understanding of ESA by working in different departments. You may also collaborate with industry partners, research institutions, or other international space agencies, enriching your experience.

Training and Development

Alongside on-the-job training and coaching, you’ll have access to a tailored learning programme, including technical training, leadership workshops, and personal development courses designed to enhance your skills.

International and Multicultural Work Environment

ESA thrives on its diverse workforce, with team members from its 23 Member States and beyond. The JPP offers you the chance to work in a collaborative environment alongside experts from various disciplines and cultural backgrounds.

Attractive Benefits Package

As a Junior Professional at ESA, you will enjoy:

  • A competitive salary
  • Comprehensive health and social security coverage
  • Generous leave entitlements
  • Relocation support, including travel and accommodation assistance

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the JPP, you must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., satellite engineering, strategic coordination, optical and quantum technologies, AI, etc.)
  • Have two to three years of professional experience, including roles in PhD programs, ESA’s Graduate Trainee Programme, National Trainee Programme, or Research Fellowship
  • Be a citizen of an ESA Member State, Associate Member, or Canada as a Cooperating State (specific eligibility listed in each vacancy)
  • Exhibit strong motivation to pursue a long-term career at ESA
