The UK’s Biggest Private Space Collection: From Rockets to Rowing

Exploring Space at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames

If you’re a space enthusiast or just looking for a unique museum experience, the River and Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames is a must-visit. The Space Vault exhibition, showcasing a private collection of space memorabilia, is a fascinating look into the history of space exploration.

From documents used in the planning of moon landings to fragments of spacecraft and even moon dust, the collection offers a glimpse into the world of astronauts and space missions. One of the highlights is a piece of the Salyut 7 Soviet space station, the largest chunk of space debris in private ownership.

While the space exhibit itself is a relatively small part of the museum, the rest of the museum is equally engaging. The history of rowing, from ancient times to the modern Olympics, is showcased with trophies, medals, historic rowing boats, and Olympic rowing displays.

For families, there’s also a fun grotto space that tells the story of The Wind in the Willows, adding a touch of whimsy to the museum experience.

Visiting the museum is easy, with daily opening hours and a convenient location just a short walk from Henley on Thames station. With affordable admission prices and plenty to see and do in the charming town of Henley, a visit to the River and Rowing Museum is a great day out for space enthusiasts, history buffs, and families alike.
