French site of sports retailer adopts extensive robotics solution

GXO Logistics Implements Robotics Solution for Major Sporting Goods Retailer in Europe

The future of logistics is here, and it’s robotic. GXO Logistics, a leading contract logistics provider, has recently implemented a large-scale robotics solution for a major global sporting goods retailer in Europe. This innovative solution is set to revolutionize the retailer’s supply chain operations, enhancing order processing speed, adaptability to seasonal demand fluctuations, and overall operational efficiency.

Rui Marques, managing director of GXO France, expressed excitement about the new tote-to-person solution, integrated with high-density storage, which enables high-volume picking, storage, and operating efficiency in the warehouse. This cutting-edge robotics solution spans over 12,000 square meters and comprises approximately 500 autonomous mobile robots managing 70,000 bins on storage racks that are 5.5 meters tall.

The deployment of these autonomous mobile robots has already proven to significantly improve productivity, accuracy, and site safety in the warehouse. Their lightweight and mobile design allow for easy reallocation within the warehouse or to other facilities, accommodating seasonal demand changes effectively.

Adrian Stoch, GXO’s chief automation officer, highlighted the successful implementation of this first-of-its-kind automated solution in Europe, emphasizing the power and scale of the global team in leveraging expertise and resources across the network. This showcases GXO’s commitment to innovation and solving complex supply chain problems for its customers.

GXO’s ongoing investment in automation and technology continues to enhance safety and productivity for its customers worldwide. In 2023, the company significantly expanded its tech and automated systems by approximately 50% year over year, accelerating the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence to further enhance productivity gains from automation.

As the logistics industry continues to evolve, GXO Logistics remains at the forefront of innovation, driving efficiency, and effectiveness in supply chain operations. The implementation of robotics solutions is just the beginning of a new era in logistics, where automation and technology will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the industry.
