FBCA Robotics Club Shares Gospel Message with Scottish Students
The power of technology and robotics to bring people together is truly amazing. In a recent exchange between students at First Baptist Christian Academy in O’Fallon, Missouri, and students at Milestone Church in Girvan, Scotland, robotics served as the bridge that connected these two groups of young people.
The robotics club at FBCA recently acquired new Lego EV3 robots and donated their used robots to Milestone Church, where they have an after-school robotics club for middle-school-aged students. When a mission team from O’Fallon traveled to Girvan, they used these robots to share the gospel story with the students. Through programming tasks, the students were able to learn about man’s separation from God by sin and Christ’s redemptive power.
The exchange didn’t stop there. The students from FBCA shared their passion for robotics with their Scottish counterparts and even had the opportunity to share their personal testimonies and faith in Christ. It was a meaningful experience for both groups of students, as they bonded over a shared love for robotics and a shared faith in Christ.
As Lindsay Jewell, the FBCA technology teacher, put it, “We are on a mission to share God’s good news and glorify Him in all we do.” The robotics club at FBCA is not just about building robots—it’s about teaching students problem-solving skills and pointing them towards God as the ultimate source of help and guidance.
Brandon Tucker, the FBCA principal, sees the robotics program as a key part of instilling a true Christian worldview in the students. The club teaches them that God has equipped them to create, solve problems, work, and live in community. It’s a reminder that even something as seemingly secular as robotics can be used to glorify God and share His love with others.
The impact of this exchange goes beyond just learning about robotics—it’s about building connections, sharing faith, and spreading the message of Christ. It’s a reminder that God can use even the most unexpected tools to further His kingdom and bring people together.
I am grateful for the gospel impact that robotics is having in schools in the UK as a result of this effort. It’s a reminder that God’s love knows no boundaries and can shine through even in the most unlikely of places.
