Using Amazon Translate, Amazon Bedrock, and Amazon Polly for Automatic Video Dubbing

Revolutionizing Video Dubbing with Amazon Translate and Amazon Bedrock: A Cost-Saving Solution with Mission Cloud and MagellanTV

Video dubbing, also known as content localization, is an essential tool in breaking down linguistic barriers, engaging viewers, and expanding market reach for companies in the Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry. However, traditional dubbing methods can be costly and time-consuming. This is where the power of generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) comes in to offer an affordable and efficient solution.

In collaboration with MagellanTV and Mission Cloud, we present a cost-saving solution for video auto-dubbing. By utilizing Amazon Translate for initial translation of video captions and Amazon Bedrock for post-editing to enhance translation quality, creators can streamline the dubbing process. Amazon Translate, a neural machine translation service, delivers fast, high-quality, and affordable language translation, while Amazon Bedrock provides a range of capabilities to build generative AI applications with security and privacy.

MagellanTV, a leading streaming platform for documentaries, sought to broaden its global presence through content internationalization. Facing challenges with manual dubbing and prohibitive costs, MagellanTV turned to Mission Cloud for an innovative solution. This solution includes idiomatic detection and automatic replacement, seamless time scaling, and flexible batch processing capabilities for increased efficiency and scalability.

The unique solution developed by Mission Cloud involves a pipeline that leverages Amazon Translate, Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Augmented AI, and Amazon Polly. Using AWS Step Functions to orchestrate the pipeline, each step runs on AWS Lambda or AWS Batch, making the process reusable for dubbing new foreign languages.

Amazon Translate stands out for its support of over 75 languages, commendable translation accuracy, and unique benefits such as custom terminology glossaries. With Amazon Translate, users can input custom terminology dictionaries to ensure translations reflect specialized vocabulary or terminology, improving translation quality for specific needs.

Additionally, Amazon Translate allows users to set the desired formality tone for translations to supported target languages. By adjusting the formality setting, users can create translations that match the tone of different genres, enhancing the viewer experience.

In post-editing, Amazon Bedrock plays a crucial role in improving the quality of video captions. The platform includes features such as idiom detection and replacement, as well as a sentence shortening algorithm for automatic time scaling. These tools help enhance dubbing performance, reduce human review effort, and result in cost savings for companies in the M&E industry.

Overall, this innovative pipeline developed by Mission Cloud and MagellanTV showcases the power of generative AI in streamlining the video dubbing process. By combining the strengths of Amazon Translate and Amazon Bedrock, companies can efficiently localize content, engage viewers globally, and save on costs. The future of video dubbing looks promising with the integration of AI technologies and unique solutions tailored to specific needs.
