Revolutionizing Sales with AI-Powered Chatbots: Tome’s Innovative Approach to Closing Deals

In the world of sales, the phrase “Always be closing” has been cemented in popular culture thanks to Alec Baldwin’s character in the 1992 film Glengarry Glen Ross. While back then sales professionals had to rely on their patter and landline telephones to seal deals, today’s sales landscape looks very different. With the rise of sophisticated tools like work-focused social media platforms and AI-powered chatbots, closing deals has become more efficient and effective.

One startup that is capitalizing on this trend is Tome, founded by Keith Peiris and Henri Liriani, former employees of social media giant Meta. Recognizing the need for a platform that allows professionals to share work-related content effectively, Peiris and Liriani launched Tome in 2020. The company’s initial focus was on creating an AI tool to help build presentations, which quickly gained 20 million users in its first two years.

However, the founders soon realized that certain job functions, like sales, required a more specialized communication tool. This led them to shift their focus towards building a sales-specific generative AI chatbot that salespeople could use to prepare for client interactions. The chatbot, trained on companies’ sales methodologies, marketing materials, and customer data, is currently being tested by several Tome clients.

The Tome assistant acts as a salesperson’s copilot, providing insights, suggested next steps, and even creating materials for presentations. The goal is to eventually launch a live coaching product that can provide real-time assistance during sales calls, helping sales professionals navigate conversations and close deals more effectively.

With $81 million in funding from top venture capital firms, Tome is well-positioned to revolutionize the sales industry with its innovative AI technology. As Peiris and Liriani continue to develop their platform, the future of sales communication looks promising and full of potential.
